100 Abandoned Houses is a project by Kevin Bauman documenting abandoned houses in Detroit. here's a blurb copied off of the website:
"...as the number of images grew, and a documentary style emerged, I switched from mostly black and white, to color, and decided to name the series 100 Abandoned Houses. 100 seemed like a lot, although the number of abandoned houses in Detroit is more like 12,000. Encompassing an area of over 138 square miles, Detroit has enough room to hold the land mass of San Francisco, Boston, and Manhattan Island, yet the population has fallen from close to 2 million citizens, to most likely less than 800,000. With such a dramatic decline, the abandoned house problem is not likely to go away any time soon."
what interesting background behind the photographs. each photo seems to be telling a story, each house was once a home. this project gives the abandoned houses captured on film a personality of their own, an almost human-like history. to say these shots fascinate me would be an immense understatement! i wonder what it is about abandoned buildings that is so interesting, they've always been interesting to me. i remember living in rural Tennessee as a young girl and finding little abandoned sheds and houses in the woods and pretending to live in them. i created decorations out of dead leaves and berries and made beds out of moss and flat rocks. does anybody else remember playing "house" or "pretend" as a child? is anybody else fascinated with old and/or abandoned houses?
