etsy: norwegian wood

Norwegian Wood houses some of the most creative pieces of clothing i've seen. cage skirts, harnesses, and leggings are just a few of the ingenious items you'll find in the shop. there's also a rather wonderful array of funky necklaces to drool over and be inspired by. speaking of inspiration, here is a great Etsy video* that shows Angie Johnson, the creator behind Norwegian Wood, having a bit of dress up fun with her outfits.

*if you don't subscribe to the Etsy Podcast already, i highly recommend it. it's definitely my favorite video podcast out there.

projections

Jenny Holzer's project, Projections, is chilling and beautiful. Jenny uses words and light to create ghostly projections that she then snaps photos of. there's something so gorgeous and raw about words when they're taken out of their usual environment of paper and put somewhere you never thought you would see them. words are powerful...turn them into this sort of art and they possess a different kind of eerie power altogether.

(a big big thanks to mkendall for letting me know about his work when i featured one of his photos in my random lovelies 3 post)

t-shirts and questions

i wear t-shirts aaaaall the time. but i'm super picky about the ones i wear. i thought that i would post them on here in case any of you share my love for tees. if you have any suggestions or a favorite t-shirt brand (the softer the better!) let me know. i'm always on the lookout for that perfect shirt!

1. American Apparel Track Shirt - i love this t-shirt. it's soft and thin and...did i mention soft? i love all of AA's tees, but the Track Shirt has got to be one of my favorites as far as fit goes. it's not too tight and it's not shapeless. really, i can't rave about this shirt enough (or American Apparel for that matter). on a side note...looking at the website, i'm pretty sure i have the woman's version, but it might be the unisex one.

2. Target: Pocket V Neck - i don't know if they still sell this t-shirt (i know they used to market it as the Boyfriend Tee). i've had it in both white and heather grey and i love it. it's soft but not as thin as the other shirts listed here, so it doesn't drape very well. it's a great tee though. i love it.

3. Truly Madly Deeply Deep V Neck Tee - what can i say? i adore v necks. the deeper the better. it's probably one of the only times i show cleavage (kinda strange that it's when i wear a plain old t-shirt huh?) and i don't know why...but there's just something so addicting about a great deep v neck tee. and that's exactly what this is. it's also pretty long so you can sort of bunch it up at the bottom. and a big plus...it's very very soft.

♥♥♥

oh! and i got tagged again! this time by the splendid Malou from Toasters and Kangaroos. i'm supposed to come up with a list of questions that i want other bloggers to answer and tag them...but i've been so lazy lately...so i'll just answer Malou's questions. little by little you guys are getting to know me better! ;]

Q. if you could go back in time, where would you go?
A. i would love to visit the sixties! also, the twenties...

Q. what's in your pockets right now?
A. my camera lens cap.

Q. who is your favorite person in the whole entire world?
A. oooh i don't have favorites. but i'm really close to my mother, so i guess i could say her?

Q. if you could be any age for a week, what age would you choose?
A. seven was a good age =]

Q. what's your favorite magazine?
A. BUST, hands down!

Q. are you superstitious?
A. not at all.

Q. favorite color and why?
A. i love them all! but my favorite color is plum, it makes me happy and it's a nice subdued color that gets overlooked a lot.

Q. favorite time of the year?
A. either spring or fall. they're both wonderful transitions. probably spring though...i adore all of the flowers.

Q. what's one adjective you would use to describe you?
A. oh wow that's a tough one. maybe indecisive? haha

Q. what fruit do you most resemble?
A. maybe a rambutan? or a kumquat?

random lovelies 3

and my inspiration folder continues to grow and grow and grow...see posts one and two. if you know the source of these photos please let me know. =]

ps- i'm particularly partial to the third one...there's just something about the intensity of the photograph that gives me shivers whenever i look at it. also, you can kind of tell how much i love freckles and feathers by this selection!

(update: the third photo is from here. thanks so much mkendall!)

color collective

sort of following yesterday's color themed post, i wanted to write a bit about a blog that i just recently discovered. it's called Color Collective and it is amazing. rather than trying to explain the blog myself i'll paste in what Lauren Willhite, the blog creator, wrote under her about me section.

"I created Color Collective as a designers' resource for color. The color palettes are pulled from the work of various designers, artists, and photographers that I am inspired by. I hope you will be inspired too, and use these palettes in your own creative projects!"

her description sums up the blog quite nicely. Color Collective is chock-full of inspiration. like i said about color earlier, i can't get enough of it. it's really nice to be surrounded by such beautiful color palettes in this world...and it's even nicer that Lauren has taken to putting them in her blog for all of us to have access to. just look at those gorgeous color combinations!

etsy color: purple

clockwise from top left: lavender print by abby try again; soap by Blushie; coin purse by Field of Roses; snuggler by Yokoo; fiber art by Laura Amiss; mug by Red Hot Pottery; friendly feminist shirt by KM Stitchery; felt bunny by girl savage; print by Caitlin Shearer; amethyst earrings by MSO Joies

similar to my feelings posts on Lulu and Lou, i'm going to do a color post every so often on this blog. instead of posting pretty photos though, i'll be browsing through the many colors of Etsy and finding products that match the color of the post. i kind of feel like starting off with purple since it's my favorite color. we'll see how this works out...i really hope it does! i can never get too much color!

ps- HAPPY EARTH DAY!!!

banter banners

these Banter Banners are so amazing (and they kind of speak for themselves so i'll keep my rambling short)! i want this one above my bed. it would be like a...festive dream catcher of sorts.
which lovely banner do you want to take home? where would you hang it? or what if you could create your own banner? what would it say?

Portland, OR, United States
hi! i'm Lena, but you can call me Lulu. i love Frida Kahlo, feminism, art, reading, kitties, and drinking tea. i love the film Amelie and i think that the tiny traveling gnome has stolen my heart. i want to own a bookshop and live above it one day. i get quite passionate about things. i tend to think too much. i'm kind of a hermit.
