quiet girl

i am a huge fan of postcards. it's obvious from my blog title and it's obvious by the random little things i like to post about. so when i stumbled across these illustrated postcards by Valerie Chua on Anna's blog (one of my favorites, you should definitely check it out) i almost squealed with glee. goodness, aren't they completely marvelous? these illustrations are the epitome of wistful. the girls' unsmiling faces and  muted colors bring about a plaintive aspect to the otherwise gorgeous atmosphere that these postcards create. looking at these collaged portraits, the girls are seemingly begging for their story to be told. but in these cards, i think that part is up to you.

to lulu

this lovely postcard came in the mail a few days ago. i love my bestie so very very much. i hope she doesn't get mad at me for you guys finding out that her real name is Lauren, although i don't know why she signed it that way since all i ever call her is Lou. this really made my week. maybe one of these days i'll go to Ireland with her and open a bookshop there. but for now she is quite right, Portland fits me so well. oh Lou, how i love you. =]

ps- like my shoddy "trying to figure out how to erase my last name/address" skills? also, i have no idea why my scanner freaked out and scanned this all wonky. oh well.

pps- as you read this i will actually be camping (hopefully pictures to come). i won't be back for a few days, so i hope everybody's weekend goes oh so well! leave me some comments telling me what you did! i would love to hear about it. =]

postcarden

how amazing are these postcard gardens from Postcarden? i mean, it's a garden...in a postcard! and, also, a cute little how-to video, so when you buy loads of them to send off to your friends but end up keeping for yourself (or maybe that's just me...) you'll know how to make each of your Postcardens look fabulous!

hi! i'm Lena, but you can call me Lulu. i love Frida Kahlo, feminism, art, reading, kitties, and drinking tea. i love the film Amelie and i think that the tiny traveling gnome has stolen my heart. i want to own a bookshop and live above it one day. i get quite passionate about things. i tend to think too much. i'm kind of a hermit.
